All I’m asking for is for some thicker glass..Is it really that hard?[/quote]
If you’ll note, the person hit last week was shot in the calf – through the door, not the glass. Thicker glass will only protect a portion of you, and then not even that if you duck down.
I’m beginning to suspect you are getting nervous because you drive like a maniac. Aren’t you the one who commented on here about all the speeding tickets you get? And about the wild ride you had home in your BMW one night (I think you had second thoughts and deleted that post)?
Professionally speaking , if you plan on adding armor to your vehicle the proper way would be to install a full set of Curved Bullet Resistant Vehicle Glass and just importantly armor for the doors side walls and rear area. Remember you wish to protect your life so do it right the first time. In a vehicle attack you have no idea of where the vehicle will be shot. Adding Bullet Resistant Glass only gives you 50% protection, you could still be shot and killed. This is a serious investment the glass will be in the range of $10,000.00 to $15,000.00 + installation and modifications to the door trim and door hinge reinforcements.
You would be adding 8 to 19 lbs per sq.ft depending on the level of protection. We have a company in Texas that can install our glass and armor systems for you.

My understanding is that adding armor increases the weight of the car a lot. These kinds of vehicles often include beefier transmissions, engines etc. Protect your fuel tank, go beyond just the glass and realize most cars sheet metal will not help and while there think about how vulnerable you are to explosives?
Think realistically in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
I picked up a real nutter one night on the 52. The guy came racing up and started tailgating and then swerved to the right and then back in behind. As I approached the 805 turn I braked hard as he swerved to the right and hit a hard turn behind to ditch the maniac catching the 805 ramp at the last possible moment.
To my surprise this was a SDPD squad car. God knows what I did to incite this level of rage but I am glad to have a car capable of evasive driving. God knows what a nutter cop may be capable of…
