The interesting thing about Putin is his complete lack of tact. He is old school KGB. If he does start gobbling up countries in Europe I do not expect him to tolerate Muslims based on his track record with the insurgents in some of the break aways. I would expect this to be similar to what he did when there was a hostage situation. During the Beslan school hostage crisis a group of armed terrorists, demanding an end to the Second Chechen War, took more than 1,100 people (including some 777 children[5]) hostage on September 1, 2004.On the third day of the standoff, Russian security forces stormed the building using tanks, thermobaric rockets and other heavy weapons. Ultimately, at least 334 hostages were killed, including 186 children.[7][8] Hundreds more were wounded or reported missing. Sorry Czechoslavakia, sorry Poland. Resistance is futile.

Aecetia: In Russia, this is known as a successful raid. When ALL of the hostages die, not so much.
I don’t know if you’ve ever read up on the war in Chechnya, but it’s pretty gruesome. Grozny has been somewhat rebuilt, but I’ve seen some intel photos following the start of hostilities and the Russians absolutely flattened that place.
Another interesting thing to look into is Putin’s association with Pamyat (“Memory”) an ultra-nationalist group that is dedicated to a return of Russia’s past glory. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pamyat
Of course, us war-mongering righties are just stirring the pot and the threat from Putin and his little henchmen is overblown.

September 18, 2009 at 1:06 AM #458384AecetiaParticipantHe has a very cold look in his eyes and I am sure he has killed people up close and personal. Obama is not in his league. I am sure he has not even been in a fist fight. I won’t bring up the way he threw the first pitch out either. The trouble with Bush he did not recognize evil when he saw it either. He was so focused on the terrorists he forgot about our old enemy. There is an entire generation that does not remember the cold war and until recently, they thought the stock market only went up. We have grown soft.
