Russell, thanks for taking the time to look at my web site. You are right, for those on a budget or the DYI type granite tile is a far better option than ceramic tile.
In regards to price shopping us against the big box stores.. I will go toe to toe with them anytime. We are frequently very close in price and when considering more exotic granites we are usually cheaper. Importing our own material makes us very competitive in the upper end granites.
The thing to remember about big box stores is that for most of the home improvement services they offer they sub the work out to those in the business. They make a good buck off those deals so how do they stay competitve?? The answer is they grind the “associate” companies so hard on pricing that these companies have to compromise something to bring thier costs down. Too often that comes in the qaulity of materials or service.
IMHO you have a better chance of getting a qaulity job at a fair price going directly to the companies that are in that business. I have torn out and replaced more than a few box store jobs.

June 5, 2009 at 7:37 AM #410891AnonymousGuestThat’s the only material we don’t source ourselves. It’s hard to ship a fabricated countertop across the country. Our local dealers, though, who we’d recommend you use in your local area, have their own sources for that. Otherwise, we have everything you need, “from soup to nuts,” as they say.

June 5, 2009 at 3:53 PM #411160AnonymousGuest
Is it worth upgrading to Granite counter tops?
I have friends in Carlsbad who are planning on selling their $650K house soon. They have got multiple bids to upgrade their kitchen counters and backsplash to granite. The bids all came in around $12K. The current counter tops and back splashes are white tile and look quite respectable. Is it worth doing the upgrade or should they keep their list price $12K lower?
I’m a buyer in the Carlsbad market looking for homes in about the price range of your friends. I would not pay $12,000 more for a home with granite than one that just had white ceramic tile. I’ve looked at a lot of homes here, and many with granite. Quite a few have had ugly granite counters, and in my mind I’ve taken that into consideration (ie. replacing ugly countertops). It’s really all about personal taste.
they should save their money and get the house on the market now.June 5, 2009 at 3:53 PM #411398AnonymousGuest
Is it worth upgrading to Granite counter tops?
