ParticipantThanks for the congrats, sdcellar. It was a tough road, but I know I was doing the right thing for us by not buying a few years ago. Just today I got an alert on a complex my husband liked (Sunset Cove). As late as 2007, these units were selling around 500k. This particular one reduced to 375k. Setting aside all the HOAs and CC&Rs that we’d have to deal with, we were able to get a house instead of a condo and we just had to wait a little longer. And there were plenty of people calling bottom the past few years. I still think prices will decline b/c there’s still plenty of distress out there. I try not to think about it.

ParticipantYou definitely did the right thing hanging on to get a house. You really can’t worry about what’s going to happen with prices, and it sounds like you don’t plan to. I’m pretty sure you’ll do better with your place than I’ll do with mine. Maybe I’ll catch back up further down the road…
I’ve been through this before and maybe I didn’t know enough at the time, but it’s fairly easy to get back to living your life and your house price does whatever it does. You avoided the big hit and that’s what matters.

ParticipantRight, sdcellar.
Remember the days before internet listings, and people just lived in their houses, totally ignorant about what housing prices were doing unless they wanted to buy or sell?
I think you and jp are going to be happy about your purchases for a long, long time. Time to enjoy life and not worry about housing prices anymore. It’s a tough addiction to break, but totally worth it, IMHO. Can’t wait until we get to forget about the housing market after we buy. You guys are lucky.
