Now you’re talkin’ π There is very little to be achieved from subsribing to the instituion of marriage….and no material advantage to having kids. Both require a willingness to sacrifice. People unwilling to lower expectations, or unable to compromise, should not do either.
From Marrion’s posts it appears obvious as to why she needs a lawyer. I cant imagine anyone being able to reach a reasonable compromise with such lofty expectations. And Dave seems to have a clear idea of why he isn’t intending to marry.
‘Hornet’ is the perfect label for Marrion….she does stir up the action π Driving a stake in the sand that women sacrifce all for family and marriage then are left weeping and alone with nothing to show for all their years of selflessness is quite contrary to her ‘I can do it all on my own, have buckets of self-esteem, a can-do attitude, don’t take $hit from anyone, and i dont need a man for anything’ stance…….well except for that monthly check….which is my God given write as a victim of womanhood.
I know, I know….I just dont understand what it is like to be a woman….which is a scorched earth stance that implies woman understand exactly what it is like to be a man. Alas…no compromise can be reached with such people….wether male, or female. The difference is, I dont see Dave expecting a monthly check from anyone….or trying to portray himself with the moral high ground.
Women who play the victim card of “I gave up my career, my body, my shot at stardom and sacrificed all” blah blah blah…those are the women who want all the benifits of being a man without losing the privlidges of being a woman. Men have obligations, women have choices. That is the way American courts view marrage, it isnt exactly 50/50. Men can end up with the short end of the stick pretty darn quickly.
But to Golfgal’s point. Marriage and kids shouldnt be about monetary, career, status or material gain. Unfortunatley, too often it is and that leads to contention and unfufilled expectations. Women have a wonderful chance at motherhood which men never have. God made it that way. Usually, it is a choice…and most men will defend that choice for women. But motherhood takes sacrifice, and it isnt for everyone.
I shell out more money on my family than i ever would if I lived alone. It isnt an investment, it is purely an expense. I wouldnt change it for the world. If my wife and i are ever unable to compromise it would be most unfortunate for the kids who would have bitter parents as role models.
Golfgal. Kids are cute. Marrion is a bit@#. Yes. It is that simple.
Jasper
P.S. Dave….as the old saying goes….dont argue with an idiot lest people cant tell the difference. (although please keep up the good work, incredibly entertaining)

April 16, 2008 at 10:25 PM #188813temeculaguyParticipantJasper, I’m throwing a flag on the play, feel free to edit your comments and spare your reputation. Yes, Marion is opinionated and Dave enjoys prodding her, which is entertaining for many and I’ll admit it goes overboard at times and beyond my tastes. But these threads often reach 5 or 6 pages so while we all wait out the very slow and often boring R/E decline, some folks enjoy watching the side show and it’s good for a laugh.
But idiot and B&%$h are completely uncalled for, either find a more subtle and clever way to fire an insult or be seen for someone who is behaving exactly as the words they are using to describe another. I know our mothers taught us both how to deal with women we disagree with and that isn’t it. I’ll check this thread for the next hour and I’ll delete this if you edit yours.

April 17, 2008 at 12:22 AM #188823AnonymousGuestTemeculaguy,
Fair enough….but i couldnt find a way to edit now….think it locks out after someone else posts.
Perhaps my attempt at being trite was overboard, as you stated with the B word. Not a defense, but, better than the C word. Should have used “difficult”. Different way to say the same thing.
I’ll stand buy ‘idiot’ only because it is part of the idiom. It was intended more as a food for thought, rather than a direct pointer. Sort of like ‘stupid is as stupid does’ (i.e. only, not directed at anyone)
I’ll accept the penalty, change of possession and points off the board….and refrain from such language in the future.
