Where I work, your average engineer probably makes just under $100k. The senior positions are pushing around $100-115k, with a few high end people in the $130k range.
Even if it’s not at the level the OP was stating, that’s still a very nice income especially for a working couple.
As SDR said, a lot of people don’t realize how much money is out there. I’m still blown away by some of the war chests people I know are throwing around, and some at such young ages. A lot of people are beyond broke, or barely getting by but there are also a lot of people out there with massive amounts of cash.
