We were in the Poway Unified school district in 2007-2008(Westwood Elementary) and had a terrible time with the special ed services. My child has high functioning autism and after going through the qualification process, they still denied him any services.
When we moved to Texas and started the process over, the new school was shocked that my son didn’t qualify for services – he cleary has autism. I’m guessing that it’s a budget issue???
I really don’t know anything about Carmel Valley’s schools in regard to special ed services. I highly encourage you to arm yourself with special education laws and procedures when working with whatever school your son ends up going to. You might also want to do a search for special education advocacy groups in San Diego to give you more insight into what schools might be better suited for your child.
