We finally got insurance. Ultimately, we went through Farmers, though we had to transfer our auto policy to Farmers, as well (arghhhh). On the plus side, we seem to have a very good agent.
One hurdle we had to overcome was that the house was valued at over $1M, which seems to be an upper limit to many carriers. Turns out, a trick that people can use is to get insurance for $999,000 and then get the extra coverage that allows for 125% (or 150% or whatever) of the value of the home to raise the coverage amount enough to cover what you need. Perhaps anyone else needing insurance can use this trick. Thank again for all of your help.
