My backstory is my dr. Wife and I disagreed for over a decade on whether my drinking every single night at dinner was good or bad for health. My position was that someday science would prove what is obvious to me. Eventually studies showed alcohol drinking correlates w health. I think wine is best because it’s fruit. Beer is ok but I’d rather drink hard alcohol before beer. But I haven’t researched it. I just scan her incoming medical journals for articles and irritantingly wave them in triumph. Not really research. Now she just says I’m at risk if I go over two drinks per night, and she’s probably right but I try to keep it down to 3.
ww have your dr check your liver and kidneys. that’s where a physical problem w/drinking usually gives you early warning signs.
we got up to 3 glasses of wine (we only drink wine – no beer or hard alcohol ever) per night a couple of years ago and my dr ran some tests. Next week I was standing in the middle of Mandalay Bay only to hear my cell phone ring and my dr’s voice “tests are back, i want you to quit drinking for 6 months and get tested again.” Well I didn’t quit drinking but we did cut back to 1 glass/night (plus a lil extra on Sat eve :-)) and retested a year later.
Liver and kidneys are back to normal. I now know my limit. Thank you dr!
I wouldn’t tell you this if i didn’t care, ww. Better safe that sorry…run the tests!
