Cuba ended 2006 recording its lowest infant mortality rate ever with 5.3 infant deaths per every thousand live births according to the W.H.O.
According to the latest C.I.A. World Factbook, Cuba is
one of 41 countries that have better infant mortality rates than the U.S.
I believe this is because there is so much IVF treatment going on here that babies get born prematurely much more often. If the child is born and stabilizes, then the baby has a much better chance of survival than the 6.3/1000 figure suggests because about 50% of infant mortality is after premature births.
