I think ocrenter just explained this: she gets attention because she (and her family) is like Michael Jackson: weird, odd, strange, and a bit of a joke. That always attracts attention…from the media and from humans in general. The media is just searching out more of her weirdness – you view it as “discrediting” her.
I bet *you* still remember the weird, odd, strange kids that went to your high school.
