John, I have a great deal of respect many Republicans, Goldwater being one of them, as well as Colin Powell, Bob Dole…etc.
I don’t know exactly what you are trying to prove in the article, except that what turned Democratic Southern states red was the Democrats eventual support of civil rights. The mistrust that Southerners harbored against the civil rights movement and activist Democrats is still felt to this day and especially every four years.
Its the “Conservatives” of today that have given me a bad taste; Tom Delay, Rick Santorum, Pat Robertson…etc.
