If we get the big one (earthquake) in California, does that speed up the Mad Max melt down or will it focus energy away from the economy and actually work as a stimulus program? This would be similar to what WWII did for the U.S. to get us out of the depression and put lots of people to work killing Germans and Japanese.[/quote]
A Nuke or Nukes going off in America would speed it up.
If it happens it will probably be set off by people they are resettling here from Gitmo.

I agree with John. I think a terror or bio-terror event would bring us closer to a Mad Max scenario. I don’t see this happening with an earthquake unless its completely devastating, and I think the odds are against that happening anytime soon (unless you dip your head down the 2012 rabbit hole – but we’ll save that for another thread;-)).
I know it’s not a popular view, Aecetia, but I just don’t see any possible way to reanimate or stimulate this corpse of an economy at this point. Sooner or later, I think we will all need to accept the fact that the U.S. economy (post 1971) had an expiration date, and that date has now arrived. The efforts made by the government really strike me as attempts to remodel a kitchen while the rest of the house is on fire. At a certain point, it’s best to just get out of the house, let it collapse, clear out the rubble the next day, THEN start re-building.
