I don’t think this was so much about health care or even unemployment as it was about taxpayer money being used to enrich bankers. I think that was the hottest button.
People in MA already have a health care plan like the Dem proposal, so the impact of that was nearly neutral to them. But the image of Wall Street paying itself more and more on the backs of taxpayer supports while the rest of us fear for our jobs and incomes was infuriating to independent voters in MA.
