Funny thing about 2 year-olds: they’re mystically and irresistibly drawn to entertainment electronics. When my youngest was two, he broke our turntable, which forced us to go and invest in a CD player (which tells you how advanced in age I am).
We have a second home in a rural area to which we plan to retire (should that ever again be possible in our culture). We visit once or twice a month, and made a conscious decision not to get a dish. We’re doing a lot more reading, which we both love to do, when we’re down there. For whatever reason, when I’m back home, I’ll continue to sit and watch absolute crap when there’s nothing of value on cable. I mean shows like “Bridezillas” and “Housewives of OC” – real sludge at the bottom of the barrel stuff.
As for SN, i admire her skills, but it’s sooo obvious that most of the parents aren’t getting it at all. But i have to admit, the Daniels episode was really out there. I realize that they edit this stuff, but it was surreal. It was like Lisa had no clue where the kids were coming from, and was at a total loss as to what to do with them. Some psych grad student could develop a helluva PhD dissertation from a few months with that family. Actually, I’m surprised Lisa, in her quest to get her kids “noticed” (as per her mySpace page), has not signed them up for Dr. Phil yet. Or maybe she tried, and he just decided that she was beyond his skill set.
