I was like, why don’t you just extract the wisdom tooth, since that’s what people do anyway. And he’s like, oh you can’t do that, because your bite will be off, yada yada yada. So I went to another dentist who told me that I should just extract the tooth. It was $150, and insurance paid for most of it.

I think you did the right thing. Once there is a crack in a tooth it is just going to keep getting damaged, infected, etc. Not worth trying to save. And that crown probably would have ended up more than $800.
