….So, anyone going to the Stewart/Colbert rally in DC?
I’ll be there, but I live there, so, admittedly, it will be much more accessible for me. But I really think that it would be excellent if a Piggs contingent showed up.
BTW, if you aren’t aware of it, I believe the show producers have arranged a deal with a bus line to provide relatively inexpensive transportation. Of course, 40 hours on a bus from Cali to DC might just be enough for people to totally revise their political views, or even give up their citizenship. So, beware.
I will be there also. I was supposed to be in Philly this coming weekend, but I’ll deviate to DC just for fun.
I hope the weather is a fantastic fall day in DC.
I don’t know the DC metro system that well. How do I get to the Capitol by metro directly from DCA? I’ll travel lite with backpack only.
Sorry, Brian – Just got around to checking Piggs, and saw your post. I can’t tell whether you plan to fly in to DC directly from San Diego, or if you’re already going to be in Philly, and plan to come down to DC for the day.
If you’re already in Philly, I’d just hop on Amtrak at 30th Street and then you can exit at Union Station in DC. That’s only a few blocks from the Capitol.
Otherwise, coming from DCA, just hop on the yellow line. It’s probably the most direct route from Reagan Nat’l. Get off at the Navy Memorial – National Archives stop on 7th Street NW, just north of Pennsylvania Avenue. It’s approx. a 2 1/2 block walk to the Capitol Mall area where they are holding the rally (Henry Park/Seaton Park, between Madison Drive and Jefferson Drives and 7th St. NW and 3rd St. NW).
You could get off at the L’Enfant Plaza stop just prior to that; it’s about the same distance, but much less pleasant walk. They’re doing a lot of construction in the area, and it’s not terribly pedestrian-friendly. That wouldn’t have been a problem at the Glenn Beck Rally To Restore Honor because those people are tough as nails and, beside that, they all had massive SUVs and pickups with huge tires and lots of chrome to get them through that hellhole they call Washington DC. But anyone attending a Rally to Restore Sanity is sure to be a spineless wimp. Better watch it, Brian: the fact that you are walking to the rally will have already made you suspect, but your backpack and lack of beer belly are sure to give you away as the weak, gutless, America-hating Communist/Socialist treehugger that you are. Whatever happens, don’t tell them you’re from California.
