There seem to be a lot of bitter, cynical men with misogynistic tendencies on Piggington. If men get burned, I think it’s because all too often they are irrational and think with the wrong head. I have a few guy friends who do this on a regular basis. Even when I have tried to explain what is REALLY going down they usually refuse to listen.
IMO the only time alimony and “settlements” are appropriate is when one spouse has been forced to alter their lives to support the other partner’s career/lifestyle.
I have another friend who is married to a prominent surgeon. They attend lectures and symposia around the world. Her whole life for 15 years has been making sure the servants pack his things correctly, planning events, improving her golf game, looking smashing, and helping him network and shine at social events (he’s one of those brilliant, shy dudes). If they ever split up, I would expect her to be taken care of.
On the other end of the relationship spectrum my buddy Tom, who owns a home on the coast in Encinitas and has built some real wealth, and is about to trip down the aisle with a shameless gold digger. They are both in their early 40s and it’s the 3d time for both of them.
He has said, with pride gleaming in his lust-filled eyes, “do you know that ‘Bambi’ goes to the gym every day and really works out?” or ‘things really sizzle between us’ to which I once replied, “Sizzle is great, but where’s the steak?” I’m strengthening my shoulder because I know he’ll need it in about, oh, 11 months.
OK. I’ve swung wildly enuf off topic.
It’s time to a garage sale or two and look at other people’s tacky treasures.
