I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again – for a site dedicated to and populated by people who know how to use finances well, it always amazes me when one of them advocates a position that leads to more money being spent by an entity that has a questionable history of spending money well.
Marion: here is the secret that all rich people have figured out: the individual (you, him, her, me) is the best judge of how to spend their own money. Not the government. Not the democrats. Not the republicans. The individual. Because it’s the individual’s money, the individual will use the money to its highest potential based on their individual situation and values.
You thinking that rich people are scrooges who want to squirrel away money is just plain wrong. Oh, sure there are a few people like that, but they are the exception rather the rule.
Look at Warren Buffet. You will all agree that he is probably one of the best judges on how to spend money to its greatest impact. When he started looking at how to spend it in order to fight things like poverty or sickness or disease, did he give it to the government? NOT EVEN CLOSE. He gave it to Bill Gates and his foundation. They could take that money and use it to its best potential. There are many rich people who use their money this way. I know some of them.
Think about that.
We as a nation give so much to charities and yet we are also derided and asked for more. We give more than any other nation and we are called stingy. There is only so much we can do. Money is not unlimited. Rich people recognize that money should be used wisely, not indiscriminately.
