3 summers ago (watching Batman Begins in Mira Mesa) I had some terrible pain in my stomach. Just figured it was a little indigestion. Eventually the discomfort grew and I drove to Zion. As soon as I got out of the car, whammo the projectiles and it was particularly nasty (felt sorry for passers-by). They wanted to x-ray and I could not keep anything in the system, so I wound up with a tube going down my nose and having my stomach pumped for a few days. Easily the worst three days I can recall since moving here 3.5 years ago, I hope I never have a tube going down my nose again.
In any case I found my physician to be very compassionate. They feared either a blockage or possibly some kind of twisted knot in the upper stomach that was filling too quickly.
Now I think I pushed out of there about one day sooner than I should have by walking a lot and not complaining (actually one day was totally in bed).
In the end they were never sure what it was. I’ve since heard there was some kind of nasty virus that summer than I could have contracted as well. They gave me a boatload of Prilosec and not Nexium, and to this day I have no idea what the problem was.
However I will admit Kaiser on that one was pretty good.
Now I have one other issue I was hit in the foot pitching batting practice to my 13 year old which caused a terribly painful bone bruise. Sometime after that a vein seemed to pop out of my leg around the ankle. (That leg has always had varicose veins since I was 19, so it could be that also). Incidentally varicose veins kind of sucks for a guy but that’s another story. In any case this sucker has popped now twice and when it does blood shoots out and I have to compress until it stops. I went in after the first occurance, and the doc could not have been less interested in fixing it, so I’ve been hesitant to go back in, however it doesn’t seem to want to heal (i.e skin growing over it). So I am going to suck it up and go in, but like I said the last guy seemed completely put off, as I pleaded saying “look doc this sucker was shooting about 4-6 feet”. He said “well you got it stopped and it should heal”.
