It’s not trivial. We had an attorney do it. There are a surprising number of issues that come up, as an earlier poster mentioned, with many decisions that must be made. I can’t imagine figuring out how to do all this myself. Plus, I think a lot of people make mistakes, even with attorneys, because they set up the trust and then they don’t fund it. If you don’t fund it, there’s really no point because the assets aren’t protected.
In the state of California, I really think if you have assets you want to shield from probate, an attorney is not cost prohibitive and smart.
