It’s not exactly the sticks. It’s just outside of Huntsville, home to Redstone arsenal, Space and Rocket center and one of the largest defense spending cities in the area of the country. My father was one of the structural engineers on the international space station, out of Alabama.

My post didn’t mention anything about cost of living, it was comparing the tax rates. And being a coastal city should have absolutely no bearing on a tax rate.

If anything, tax rates should be lower in areas with more people as the cost is shared among more people. Like one one person living in a house is going to pay more than 4 people living in a house, as the common costs are shared.
