When we bought our current house about seven years ago we had it finished with tile in every room, including closets. We then bought a gazillion of those wool rugs Costco was selling (made in India). They allow you to clean UNDER the carpet, which is, IMO, essential after pulling up the carpet in our condo a few years ago.
We will NEVER go back to carpet. When we build our next house you can be sure the floor will be some sort of stone — everywhere.
We wear slippers around the house BTW, and have two dogs.
