I’d think a lot of it comes down to expectations. I actually read a really good book the other day called “a million miles in a thousand years” by Donald Miller (I think). Anyways, he mentions a study through which someone concluded that the happiest nation in the world is Denmark. The reason being, that they have the lowest expectations.
Now I’m not saying that you should “aim low” per se, but I do think that some people could be more reasonable with regards to what they expect. The book was well written by an author and I would recommend reading what he said because he’s better at it, but I’ll give it a stab anyhow.
I woke up yesterday and all weather reports said that it was going to be rainy and windy. We’ll… since my morning off was yesterday and I had’nt been surfing in a while I went for a paddle anyways. To my surprise it was a great morning. The visibility was amazing at about 20 feet (which is good for SD) and there were some clean albeit little waves coming through. It was just me and one other older dude on his long board trading waves for about 3 hours having a blast.
Somehow, I just dont think it would have been as good if we had expected it to be a nice day with good waves…not to mention the fact that it would have been much more crowded.
I wish you luck jstoesz. I would say that you should’nt expect too much though. If your not happy here now you probably wont be there then either. I do hope I’m wrong.
