I am sure the $75 fee is extra and the regular property taxes only pay for the parades. Heroes!

The regular taxes did not go to the fire department because the fire department was in the city and Cranick did not live in the city or pay city taxes. The fire department was in no way funded by his taxes.
What is sad and tragic is that his pets died in the fire.
The guy who burned trash in a barrel, too close to his house, and failed to subscribe to an optional service for fire protection for non-city residents… Not a lot of sympathy for him. But I feel bad for the pets.
I do wonder how the firefighters felt, morally, seeing a house burn down that they could have stopped… But they have to live with that.
