Allan, I actually find your view fairly balanced, especially in comparison to the wingnut social conservatives out there.
Sounds to me like you’re a national security hawk rather than one of those Evangelical Christians who have taken over the Republican party.
sdgrrl, I’m with you and I’m happy that America is the melting pot that it is.
Right now is the best time to be an American. The food is great, the fashion is cool, the people are interesting. There opportunities for those who seek it. The economy is going downhill but we are still the largest most prosperous market with plenty of choices.
When I’m in NYC and ride the subway, I always think that America is great because we welcome so many peoples and cultures from around the world.
I only wish that Americans were better received around the world.
I can’t express how proud I am that our country is such a melting pot and that even with our Great Recession our country is what others dream of.
Seriously, whenever I feel bummed paying my student loan, or my car goes kaput- I tell myself “Your life is somebody’s dream”. i know there is someone in Afghanistan, Mexico, Haiti, etc that wishes with all their heart they could even have the chance to go to college, have a car, have a job, marry who they want.
America and its progress have made all these things possible for me and I am so appreciative of that.
