I grew up near to Encanto in Paradise Hills but, spent time in the area with friends and family.
Gang/thug activity has decreased greatly since I was in highschool (’94 grad). Encanto and the surrounding area is actually pretty quiet most of the time. The general rule is latino gangs punk try to punk latinos just as black gangs try to punk other blacks. Inter-race gang banging is usually pretty rare.
I’d be more concerned about random auto thefts and break-ins. However, with the economy in the toilet we’re going to see more teenagers and 20 somethings hanging out with nothing to do and everyone needs to eat. So, I’d expect crime of all sorts to increase in the near future throughout the county.
I can’t totally disagree with esmith’s reasoning although I’m not sure if he was implying some sort of racial inferiority.
From experience kids growing up on the lower end of the econ scale usually have more to worry about than grades. For myself and many of my friends had times where food, shelter, and SDGE were at the top of the list. Also, on occasion the children are earners by whatever means are available to them at that time.
Also, schools are only a part of the equation. The parents need to take an action role in their childs education.
Black, White, Asian, Hispanic…we’re all pretty much the same. Geniouses and idiots in all groups.
