Where I live I have seen maybe 2 or 3 Obama signs on lawns compared to dozens of McCain/Palin signs.
There are “Yes on 8” signs on many front lawns, and there have been several very prominent public “Yes on 8” demonstrations on street corners with waving people and honking cars.
So, since I am a strong Obama supporter and also a “No on 8” person, I have responded by putting up no signs, and having no bumper stickers on my car. Why let my neighbors, who clearly feel differently, know that I am on the other side, when it won’t change their mind?
I doubt that a sign on anyone’s lawn ever really affected the outcome of an election. What these signs do is say “here is what team I am on.” It is a shame that this can lead to vandalism and heightened tension, but we are a nation of teams, aren’t we?
