[quote=Allan from Fallbrook]At some point, with torture and rendition, you become what you behold. So what is the gain if we “win” the War on Terror and sacrifice all that we hold dear in the process?

I think this is the most eloquently stated position I have seen here so far on the torture matter. Put aside all the “facts” re the usefulness and inhumanity and incredible depravity of the enterprise of putting another human being through intense physical pain–one who has questionable information or ties to anything relevant–what are we as a people if we engage in this activity? Don’t we become the the people we are supposedly fighting against? And if you are going to “fight terrorism,” can you avoid becoming a terrorist yourself if you use such methods?
