Even before reading this article (link below), I was thinking about how the basic belief of abundance vs scarcity can drive so many decisions one makes in life: who to marry, what to study, what profession to have, should I live abroad, should I buy a house, should I buy stocks or take other risks:
Most of us won’t be unimodal i.e. we may see scarcity where others see abundance and react differently on a case by case basis:
If we believe the economy will fundamentally grow and we aren’t in an unsustainable situation, that implies abundance will carry us, albeit, there may be scarcity of a resource (housing) which will continue to appreciate due to the overall economic growth (abundance), if however we think the basis is not solid (then the growth is artificial) we are in a bubble without a foundation (money will become scare). So in an odd way, the scarcity mindset may lend itself to being a housing bear (i.e. there is no way everyone can really afford these homes/it can’t be the best use of resources).
This article speaks more of the connection to overall happiness but I did want to add this perspective on how a worldview/mindset impacts the view of housing.
I’m glad we do have some historical data, so we are hopefully making better decisions, still it may ultimately be our overall mindset which dictates our outlook.
Yes. It definitely applies to relationships. If you don’t think you have options, and fixateon just one mate, you get desperate and unattractive. If you believe there are an abundant number of potential mating options, even while married, you instantly become less needy and more attractive.
Personally, I believe pretty much all women who would know me would likely want me (abundance), but that the global economy’s going down the toilet (scarcity).
