I know some people that have. I don’t think you’ll be getting one anytime soon though. The model X, someone at work has it. And it’s plagued with annoying gremlins.
July 9, 2016 at 7:59 PM #799495EscoguyParticipantMade deposit on Model 3. Hopefully sometime before mid 2018 will be delivered.
Made deposit in store on first day.We have a Leaf and a Plug in Hybrid already which cut most of our fuel use. Tesla should be a little more fun to drive.
I like most of what Tesla is trying to do but honestly wish they would focus more on making the Model 3 as much of a mass market car as possible as the high end (model S/X) is too small to have an impact on climate etc. They will likely need to sell batteries to other car makers in the future to achieve greatest economies of scale.
I think they will make it but even if they get 10% market share, that’s not enough to have an impact on climate change.
EVs will need to replace gas/diesel 90% to really do this and making the Model X or buying Solar City doesn’t contribute much to that goal. There are many solar panel companies etc. I’ve bought six solar panel systems for 5 properties.
I know there are many motor heads out there who won’t want to change their ways. Hopefully climate change doesn’t have the impact that some project, but until we know more, we have to take the risk seriously which most of society is not at this point.

And then there is the price… ouch.
Interesting snow chains though.

Which is pointless to have a snow chain system for me. Also, every time I’ve gone to the mountain so far, there haven’t been any place to charge the car. So, it really limit what the Model X can do for me in the mountain.
July 11, 2016 at 11:37 AM #799524HatfieldParticipantDepends which mountain you’re referring to but up at Mammoth there’s a new charge station at the corner of Old Mammoth Road and Main St / Hwy 203. There’s also one at the Film History Museum in Lone Pine.
July 11, 2016 at 1:51 PM #799525cvmomParticipantThere’s also one at Bear Valley, not that anyone goes there but us 🙂
July 11, 2016 at 2:51 PM #799526anParticipantI was referring to the cabin that I rent. But if you’re talking about superchargers, then that would be a horrible drive IMHO, especially if you have kids in the car.
From here I am to Mammoth is ~400 miles. Which before I leave Mammoth, I need to charge in Mammoth, and probably charge again Inyokern, CA. So, between those two charges, it probably will take about 1.5hr to 2 hrs. to fully charge twice. The 400 miles would have taken about 7 hours with a regular gas SUV or minivan (assuming stopping once or twice for the kids to use the bathroom). So, you could checkout at 10, eat brunch, and leave around 12PM and get home by dinner time around 7PM.
With a Tesla, you wouldn’t be able to get home until ~9PM at the earliest. Which means you have to grab dinner on the road, which would add another 30-60 minutes to the trip. Which means, I’d be dead tired by the time I get home. With a gas car, I would have gotten home, eat dinner, then go to sleep early to get ready for work on Monday. It’s not as easy with a Tesla. This is also assuming the P90. If you have a P75, you would have to charge again in Temecula, which would add another 30 minutes on top of that. So yeah, I still think it’s not quite there yet for a EV to be a long distance road trip car. It’s possible, just not fun IMHO. This is besides the fact that you can’t put and kind of roof rack on the Model X. So, you’d have to find way to put your skis or board in the car, which might not be possible.
