Used to think the ole mattress stories were extreme but have to admit it crossed my mind yesterday when I moved some investments to CD’s. How low will the deposit interest go before it amounts to so little that hoarding cash makes more sense?
In many ways, CDs are the modern day equivalent of stashing dollars in a mattress: guaranteed by the govt, losing purchasing power daily, etc.
Okay, maybe a time-released mattress since there would likely be a lag in when the govt would reimburse you should the bank go kersplat.
