    I heard today that his last play was to try to persuade the city council to file for bankruptcy, chapter 9. In the last year alone the pension deficit has now topped what, like 2 or is it 3 BILLION clams… In the past year alone it has doubled. Nice!

    It is to bad that Aguirre alienated so many people. So what you want about him but he tried as hard as anyone to actually combat the illegal pension benefits. His was a failed effort and this move is his last attempt to bust the benefits. In reality it IS a prudent move and it is not a matter of if but a matter of when.

    In case any of you do not know it. We the taxpayers are on the hook to finance the pension. The performance of the pension does not matter. City employees are GAURANTEED TO GET AN 8% ANNUAL RETURN. If that return is not made then we the taxpayers pay it. Thank your city council for this.

    At any rate it is not a matter of if but when, we will declare bankruptcy. We should have done it in 04 and pretty much every year after that. Nilla wafer Sanders is to full of pride to let it happen on his watch unfortunately.

    Oh yeah, on a seperate topic we will indeed be seeing consecutive 15% increases in your wastewater services bill each of the next two years. (water and sewer). On top of that there will be a base implemented for each payee and if you exceed that base you will pay a penalty. The base will be approximately a 2 year lookback to your use. Source is a buddy I play hockey with but he is a hydrologist that consults for the city. Again, thank your city council.

    The County also has pension with 8% guarantee I believe. The Federal Govt stopped new pensions in early 80s. How the heck could any Govt agency have continued pensions after that 80’s is criminal, unless you happen to be lucky enough to have that pension. 🙂

    Yeah you have to figure that if Aguirre had played his cards right he really could have championed this cause and perhaps pulled it off. However he just was a prick to everyone. I forgot the stat but the guy like had a HUGE turnover in his own office! He chased away many a city attorney and that certainly could not have helped.

    Still at the very least he did bring the case to the courts. Of course our wonderful judicial system in thier peculiar wisdom found that the benefits were indeed not illegal. How that finding was made is very much beyond me but I guess that is why I am not an attorney. The final nail in this coffin is that the unions pretty much have a deathgrip on the city council. The only member I have any faith in is Carl De Mayo (probably misspelled). The rest of them all suck.

    I forgot the original whistle blowers name but her husband ran for mayor and basically his platform was to declare bankruptcy then. He was the same guy who went through the Orange County bankruptcy. To bad people with good ideas either lose miserably or are aholes like Aguirre. As lame as he was I still did vote for him in a losing cause.

    Pretty funny because we have tons and tons of OT posts here but really local city politics may affect San Diegans more then national issues but nobody seems to care much.
