So I had my home treated for termites...(hopefully.).It turns out inspection on found termites on the wall in master bedroom where there is a patio deck that I neglected and let termites eat away at it.

I ended up for local treatment and did not opt to tent. But, I'll closely monitor the situation to see if I need to retreat and or do something more aggresssive later...

Onto my next project. I'm going to be replacing two windows and a swinging door in my master bedroom (and along with it all of the destroyed wood)....

I've never have windows replaced.. For those of you that have.

1. How do you select the type of window to use? Is there a "Windows for Dummies guide"?
2. How much do windows cost (in the ballpark)?
3. How much does it cost to replace a window (labor)?

Again ballpark....

It's been years since I replaced windows in San Diego so I forgot the name of the contractor.

There are two types, new construction and retrofit.

If you need to replace frames, better to do new construction. You need to demo the stucco around the frame and restucco. Looks nicer and more integrated than retrofit.

Ballpark is $800 -$1000 per window I think. More for doors. Look at Home Depot/lowes and double that to include labor.

I recently replaced large a window (not in San Diego). I bought a standard size at lowes and did it myself. I have a 1970s rental house, where I plan to replace the windows myself.

The sky's the limit depending how fancy and custom you want to go. There is triple pane and different glass thickness also

Also these is basically aluminium and vinyl. I bet you have aluminum in your older house. Vinyl is better and more energy efficient. There is also low e

If you do new construction, the standard size at Home Depot would work. The condo standard with low e. Ask the guy who is doing walk repairs if he would install standard windows.

If you custom order sizes, or do retrofit, then things add up with upsale options
