OT: Don't...Feed...The....Trolls!!

User Forum Topic
Submitted by svelte on December 5, 2015 - 5:23pm

Going back almost three decades now, the first rule of forum participation is always: Don't Feed The Trolls!

When someone new comes on here asking about where to buy, gives no specifics on what they are looking for, doesn't give specifics when asked (I asked), and proceeds to bad mouth virtually every pigg and every area discussed then we've definitely got a troll on our hands.

Why some folks get a kick out of being trolls I'll never know, but the best way to get rid of them? Don't talk to them! If they can't get a rise out of people, they go away!!!

If you continue feeding the troll, then you deserve what you get.

Great post.

Another good post, svelte, but I guess it's just too tempting to feed them. It's kind of like watching a disaster happening right before your very eyes. You know it's not going to end well--you want to look away--but, somehow--you just can't. That said, thanks for the reminder.

We need a poll... Who was the most annoying pigg troll? I'm not good with names but we've had some real doozies on this board.

vote for me, vote for me!!!!

Sorry, flu, I think most Piggs would agree you just don't have enough "Trollistic" qualities to win. You're too smart, make too much sense, know exactly what you're talking about, support it with solid data, and I could go on and on.

Better luck next time--Troll Wannabe.

As an alternative, we could have threads devoted to each area (both CVs, Mira Mesa, etc.) and simply let the posters either read or post their opinions there. I have a hard time believing that people join the board just to be jerks, but I do think there are a lot of people out there who are mad that they can't afford what they want in SD. I remember when we looked for our first house here ('97) it was an eye opening experience. My husband was convinced he wanted to live west of the 5. The junk that we looked at was so depressing . . . you have to adjust your expectations, but there is no point in being rude.

Excellent advice....except, most people just love to hear themselves talking.....and some like a effing broken record that repeats the same sh!t over and over again.

In these cases, after a certain point, I think all you can do is wish someone the best and let it go. Life on earth is short, so, hopefully, they will somehow find what they are looking for before it all passes them by.

ARRRRRRRR! it's the big bad troll. here to troll ye. ARRRRRR.

There's so much I could say--and it's so tempting--but I promised myself I would not, from here to infinity, beyond the blue horizon, or until the cows come home ever again feed the trolls--done. Whew! that was close.

So much stuff makes me wonder if it's

1. Real and actual viewpoint
2. Over the top rhetoric on a basic idea
3 a plant like the Claremont prof 10 years ago spray painting her own car then blowing the hate crime alarm
4. Troll

I do see a difference between 3 & 4 and sadly think 3 is becoming a more commonly used tactic.

Submitted by yuhtey on December 11, 2015 - 7:31am.

i wonder what's the real troll-ishness, my views or the people who recommend temecula, chula juana, clan tee, and so on.

or the the high-road takers like flyer who are just too darn good at life.

don't forget the default: you can't afford it!

I think feeding the trolls is quite useful. It's particularly interesting to get insight into the mind of such people from a psychological perspective.

It also probably saves lives, since they are venting their frustration on a blog instead of doing actual damage in the real world.

Wow dude....so you post a long series of insults to troll somebody in an effort to call someone else a troll.

Nice.

I feel like I know who you voted for in the election...

Also, I am going to go out on a limb and say you don't recognize the irony.

Yeah I would also guess drug or alcohol abuse reading your post.

huh,... serendipity???

sorry to dissapoint your "speculation" but thankfully NEVER had any issues w/ any chemical dependence but will admit to a taget fixation of trying to figure out how things work, an uncanny ability to recall various facts AND preference of irreverent humor

BTW since

FWIW as to my own thought process, first off I keep in mind this forums moto

"In God We Trust. Everyone Else Bring data"

which I consider an admirable objective, so in my mind that means in practice

"cite credible source or STFU"

see what I mean about ironic humor which might piss off some when all I'm doing is following the rule listed at the bottom of the page

PS

yup did recognize the irony of the "troll thread" situtation, but given I've admitted to a "level 2" predisposition, (see infographic "So you're MAD about something on the Internet...") it is what it is,... a catch-22 paradoxical situation

AND the only escape from the paradoxical situation, is to try and see absurdity in "whatever" and/or disconnect from the "internet" if content subject matter causes an adverse reaction

Thank you for citing my 18-month old comment and for your response. Quite useful.
