I’ve read elsewhere of how poorly served Mexican families are by their education system. Apparently an all-powerful and thoroughly corrupt teachers union runs everything. Parents are urged to “contribute” in order to get any effort from the teachers for their kid’s behalf. School uniforms are required, and can be too much for the really poor families. A birth certificate is also required in order to enroll, and that may be impossible for children of migrant workers.
On the other hand, teachers are genuinely underpaid, and, much like Mexican police, feel they are justified in asking for money on the side.
If they can get to the internet they can learn anything and everything they need to know.
