ParticipantVictoria’s Secret is selling 10 panties for $25. Don’t ask me how I know this or why I’m posting it. It might be related to housing somehow, I’ll just put it out there.

ParticipantPier One has been in financial trouble for some time. No doubt housing has laready affected retailers, and that may be part of their problem, but I think in this instance a poor business model was the bigger culprit. Look at Sharper Image too.

ParticipantCoop,
No doubt that a proper business model and strategy is paramount to a successful RETAIL business, and I agree, for P1 and Circuit City and others this will be a partial cause of their demise… along with a sharp decline in consumer spending….that always tips the scales and exposes what lies beneath…..
In the meantime, those whose ladies wear panties and like decorative household trinkets…you know where the sales are at now…..happy shopping….

ParticipantMacy was running 20% off coupon deals on everything in stores, including Coach handbags. In the past, they were excluded. Coach obviously wasn't happy, as it cut into their own sales. If coach were smart they would drop macy from the seller's list next time.
There were other designer stores that were offering unheard of discounts.
Also the day after Christmas at South Coast Plaze, unlike other years, wasn't too bad. It wasn't that crowded
Interesting that other stores like Home Depot, Sears and the like started discounting all their Christmas ornaments 3-4 days BEFORE Christmas as opposed to days after christmas.

ParticipantI see someone started this thread on recent xmas season mega sales that were seen in retail stores.
My wife and I did notice MANY retailers staged massive sales, obviously trying to lure in the budget-tightening shoppers (who seem to be sensing a recession is coming)
On Black Friday (after Thanksgiving) in the Bay Area, I saw retail sales discounting greater than anything I’ve seen for at least ten years.
My wife and I spent $3,000 in five days and we got at least $15,000 of stuff in terms of normal retail prices. It was UNREAL. We got most our stuff at 75% (and more) discounted off retail prices.
I bought $45 dress shirts for $8/each
I bought $85 pleated dress slacks for $15/each
$300 leather jackets were going for $30
I bought $35 cotton polos for $8/each
$300 KitchenAid mixers for $85We felt some of the prices matched what we used to pay for knock-offs at Beijing’s Silk Street market before it was closed down.
However, I should note that we got those best deals only during the first six hours of Black Friday. We were at the mall at 6 AM. (We stacked multiple discounts for most purchases to get those prices.)

My meaning was the OLD Silk Street has been closed. The prices are higher at the new Xiushui Market, which some claim as the New Silk Street.
Now IF you are saying the Old Silk Street is still there, operating, that IS news to me. My understanding is that is has been DEMOLISHED.
There was a really interesting article some time ago in the WSJ about the nasty politics behind the closing of Old Silk Street, and how insiders (who own the new Xiushui Market) made lots of money on the deal.

I already have one, and I use it ALL the time. However, it doesn’t have the most powerful motor (it’s in the middle). If I can get a significant discount on one like you found, I may want to upgrade next year.
P.S. also if any one runs across any nice sunglasses on sale, let me know the store.

GuestA little bit more on this…Someone mentioned Victoria’s Secret store and I was in their today. I was in there one whole hour between waiting in line for the fitting rooms and the check-out counter. It was totally busy.
People are still shopping, but I don’t think they would be shopping as much if sales weren’t so good this year. All the women were buying that bras that were marked down almost to 50% off and there was so much more stuff-perfume, makeup that was marked down 75%.
Bunny and Little Lady, if you haven’t already, stop in Victoria’s Secret! 🙂

Participantwhat are you mixing Marion? I read reviews on Amazon, etc and found that machines under $1000.00 are basically good for mixing cake batter, something that cab be done with the $20 cake mixer. If you want to mix dough, you basically need restaurant mixer for $$$$. I am so sick of buying poorly made items. If someone has different experience, let us know.

Guestequalizer, I’m mixing basically cake, cookie batters and bread dough, egg whites, whipping cream. I rarely use the $20 mixer for anything anymore. It’s just so much easier and efficient for me to put everything in the Kitchenaid and let it do all the work.

ParticipantStockstradr, don’t know if you’ll see this, but where did you get the KitchenAid mixer?
It is absolutely true that we could have bought a 325 Watt 5 qt KitchenAid, with multiple accessories, for $85 at Mervyn’s. Only white color was available.
My wife nixed the purchase. Oddly, I was the one who wanted to buy that KitchenAid. It bothered me for weeks that we didn’t buy that at THAT price. We ended up getting another cheap $25 mixer that day.
However, that price came during a fleeting moment. That sale was only during the first half of Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving) and also was possible only because we had been approved for a new Mervyn’s credit card so also another 20% off that day.
Reason wife nixed that purchase is I had already spent $800 in two hours in that store

GuestStockstrader, the 325 watt is the one I have now. You definitely should have picked that up. I spent more than twice as much for mine. try to get it at that price next year.
For those of you who want good deals on kitchen appliances, go to Kohls. They’ve got good deals year round.

For those of you who want good deals on kitchen appliances, go to Kohls. They’ve got good deals year round.

Guestequalizer, I’m mixing basically cake, cookie batters and bread dough, egg whites, whipping cream. I rarely use the $20 mixer for anything anymore. It’s just so much easier and efficient for me to put everything in the Kitchenaid and let it do all the work.

Sorry, I threw out an friends and family email from sunglass hut for i think 20% off items or something like that.Ask around, it should be circulating on the internet. I get all this crap because my relative is financial analysis on retail sectors, and retailers send them all this crap.
That's how I knew I didn't need to go to the black friday sales this year, because (1) I saw the deals for black friday weren't that great this year (I only go for the free or near free stuff) and (2) I got all the pre-christmas and post-christmas deals forwarded to me early. I'll try to dig it up and post it here, but I don't have time to verify if things are still available or not.

I bought $45 dress shirts for $8/each
I bought $85 pleated dress slacks for $15/each
$300 leather jackets were going for $30
I bought $35 cotton polos for $8/each
$300 KitchenAid mixers for $85Stockstradr, don’t know if you’ll see this, but where did you get the KitchenAid mixer? I know the sale is over, but I can check that store for it next year. I already have one, and I use it ALL the time. However, it doesn’t have the most powerful motor (it’s in the middle). If I can get a significant discount on one like you found, I may want to upgrade next year.
P.S. also if any one runs across any nice sunglasses on sale, let me know the store.
