ParticipantI just got back from Death Valley and really enjoyed the trip.
My kids on the other hand, they could care less and were ready to leave as soon as we got there.

ParticipantIf you can manage it, try going to Death Valley as part of a geological field trip. You learn to appreciate everything in a whole new light. Very, very cool stuff there.
Did you tent camp, or what?
BTW, how did you like your camping trip in El Capitan last year?

We went to Death Valley last year this time of year. It’s so beautiful. Did some cool hiking down narrow canyons, did a couple ranger led nature walks. Very beautiful there.

ParticipantLike many people, we’ve traveled extensively for many years. We started young, with the kids, as many of you are doing, because we never wanted to wait until we “retired” to see everything we wanted to see.
Apart from “historical” fact-finding trips and visiting all of the National Parks, which we all enjoyed when the kids were young, my wife and I and some friends, have been trying to spend time each year at some of the most beautiful beaches and golf courses in the world–just to name a few ideas.

We did some geo stuff, and I agree even a little geo knowledge goes a long way. In fact, that’s when the kids had the most fun – checking out the lava flows and things like that.
Personally I was looking for tarantulas – I have never seen one in the wild, but I did see plenty of what I thought were Tarantula burrows.
We stayed in a hotel outside of the park (Pahrump).
El Capitan: I’ve read mixed reviews (oil on the beach), but I thought it was a great park. We tent camped there, in a TT I could stay a week easily.
