OT: OH my … Tires are so $$$$$$ now!!!!

I’m looking at some decent wear and tear touring tires, and they’re running close to $180 PER TIRE, excluding tax/mount/balance/etc/etc/etc… WTF??????

I remember high performance tires were slightly over $200 and they were YR rated…

I’m just looking at costco showing HR/VR touring tires (not that I would get them), and Michelins MXV are $200+

Michelins have always been bank. You have to go Korean if you want them for cheap. Kuhmo are good and usually 1/2 the price of Michelin. Goodyear tend to be slightly cheaper too. I haven’t touch Michelin since it came with my car new. I also downsized by rims and same at least 30%. Depending on how many miles you put on your car, that might a worth while thing to do.

Cost us $900 to put four new tires on the Mazda. It has to do with popular tire sizes now being 17 inches.

Sadly, the tires were about $500. It was all the other mandatory stuff: state disposal fee, mounting, blah blah.

I had to put 2 new tires on my car, and it was $400 + change. I replaced my Michelins 3 years ago, and they were wayyyyyyyyyy cheaper.

Awhile back ago, I was running 2 sets of tires.

1 set for summer/performance/track tires for for daily 1 all season… Before the performance tires were expected expensive and the daily a/s was cheap.. I can’t believe my daily drivers are at the point where my performance tires costs were.

I think I solved the issue with the daily/commute tires.
Found a bunch of folks that sell their near new OEM rims/tires with no mileage for cheap. I’m gonna be picking up some 17″ with new tires from someone that bought a new car and decided swap out their tires/wheels for new 18″ wheels and tires. Will cost me $450ish for 4 tires/wheels. Otherwise I’d be spending $200 each for a daily so-so tire…

That’s a great solution FLU. For me it’s very important that all 4 tires be identical and have the same wear, which should be true of the ones you’re buying.

You got a sweet deal (wheels and tires) for $450. What’s the mileage?

We were blown away by the price of tires, too. Four tires for our minivan cost $723.72 after all was said and done. For a freaking minivan! 🙁

Oops, I forgot to add… the $360 included taxes and shipping, but I still had to pay another $50 or so for mounting and disposal of old tires. The good news was a Hankook rebate of $40 or so, so my net cost wasn’t too bad. I know, Hankook is no Michelin though.

How well do you think they perform?

just mounted some BF Goodrich Long trail T/A 225 50R17s 60,000 mile tires on my truck, at Americas Tire co. they were $540 for the set of 4 out the door installed. I thought that was a good deal.

I did get quotes for worse tires from others as high as $700, shop around!!

I’ve noticed this as well. Does it have any thing to do with our trade conflict with China in regard to tire manufacturers?
