Jficquette, of all your posts and I must say you are the only one who approximates the popularity of Marion, based on responses, I like the one where you rail against “government cheese”. Feel free to start a thread called “government cheese” anytime, especially in place of another one about Obama’s BC. I just really like the way you say….. government cheese!

Participant
I scored a 6.6 / -3.9
I’d think of myself as more of a 1.0 / -7.0, though.
Kinda cool.
Actually, I goofed on my personal assessment.
I would have expected me to land about +8 / -8.I’m much less of an authoritarian than -3.9 shows. The 6.6 on economic freedom is pretty good, though I’d like to see it higher.
I’m shocked at how many people are so far on the left on the economic scale. Perhaps the bad economy handed to us by the Republicans is driving that.
The left side of that scale should be labelled “economic authoritarian” instead of “left” cuz that’s what it really is. And the right should be labelled “free markets”
Government intervention in the economy is such an awful thing, it just makes me sick to see people on the left side of that centerline.
You are all seeing what authoritarian manipulation of the market (i.e. – Federal Reserve setting interest rates) lead to, and you still want it.
Amazing.
Perhaps you have been fooled into thinking this has been a “deregulated” environment.
I say only the purple and red zones are based on consistent principals. Looking for authoritarian control of economics but not social issues makes no sense. Neither does authoritarian control of social issues but free markets. Either the gov. controls or it doesn’t, I say.
Note that our current political spectrum aligns iteslf from the lower left green corner to the upper right blue corner – Dems seeking personal freedom with control of the economics. Repubs seeking free markets but control over personal decisions driven by religion. This is tangential to the consisten axis from upper left to lower right.
Stalin wasn’t a good guy, but at least he was consistent.
This is why the political battle rages eternal without resolution. Two inconsistent ideologies fighting each other.
I say Repubs and Dems are both just a bunch of idiots who have based their political opinions on logically inconsistent platforms rather than guiding principals.
Can’t wait to see where 4plexowner lands.

Generally speaking the younger you are the more apt you are to score on the economic left.

Generally speaking the younger you are the more apt you are to score on the economic left.

Participant
Dan,
The fact that Ghandi was confronting a caste system could have necessitated a little more communism from his perspective?
Fair enough Rus.
Fair enough.Weird factoid observation.
While on the border with Pakistan, I was in a group of 3 americans and one israeli.
We were in the back of a truck and our guide was with us.
We were driving through the desert and tiny towns and villages to a larger city (jodhpur maybe?).
Anyhoo, we were low on water. The drivers stopped at the nearest well.
They would not draw water after finding out that the owner was Dalit (whatever the hell that is–a low caste I think). They considered the well unclean.
I asked our guide if he really would not drink water in the desert because of some irrelevant fact.
He shook his head and said “No that’s because they are Hindu. For us Muslims all people are equal and good before God.”
There is a side of religious relations that never showed up on my radar before.
Random
Happy voting guys.

Participant
Dan,
The fact that Ghandi was confronting a caste system could have necessitated a little more communism from his perspective?

BTW, I am good at taking tests for people. I took the myers briggs test for a friend, xwife, and 16 year old step daughter and I was correct in their typing.

I hope that we have had enough of the cosmic lesson and can move on. Typically, humans choose to shift and learn from painful experiences (or from their reactions to painful experiences) until they become more conscious and realize that they do not have to operate that way any longer.
I am hopeful we are on the cusp of co-creating a joyful reality.
I am hopeful that the one we elect to represent us is a reflection of that forward, joyful movement. As our leaders are always just an outward reflection of the mass consciousness.

Re Obama’s score; they also did one for Howard Dean a while back, and I tried taking the test for HD and couldn’t for the life of me get mine to match theirs. Like BO, their scores for him were up into the upper-right quandrant, unlike mine/ours.
I wonder how they “take” the tests for these public figures and have them wind up so different from when we “take the tests for them”.

I took that test for him months ago. I need to retake because he has proved out to be far left on the economy side and since he wants the government to run everything he must be high up into Authoritarian area which I didnt realize at the time.
My uneducated guess is Obama is -8 on the left and about +6 on the Authoritarian side.

ParticipantMein gott, I am an economic left-winger!
Economics: -0.62
Authority: -1.95I always thought I was on the extreme right on economics. So there are people out there who would actually like the 19th century way of sharing the economic spoils. I could handle that, but I am really surprised that there are many other people who would really want that. Almost everyone I know who sounds “right-wing” on economics turns out, on closer inspection, to want government subsidies and support for their activities. So I’ve always thought the real free marketeers were a tiny number. I’m still a little suspicious, and think I am unusually right-wing (libertarian) on the economics.
Good test. More objective tests of this style could civilize our political discourse.

The top/bottom scale is social and so far Obama is proving to be somewhat liberal on the social scale. He is for gay marriage, for abortion, and for stem sell research. That would be a definite ‘-‘ on that scale.
