ParticipantIf you read the line at the bottom of the article, it says “Farrell is with Scribe Communications” — Christie Farrell was credited with writing the article.
If you go to the Scribe Communications web page, you’ll see that Scribe is a PR firm.
http://www.scribecommunications.com/services.html
snippit from their “Services” page:
“Scribe Communications is highly regarded for its expertise in strategic communications planning, publicity, media relations, crisis communications and reputation management.
Scribe is an expert on San Diego. Because of its long-standing reputation as an honorable community citizen, Scribe has developed a strong network of contacts, primarily within the news media but also among city leadership.
Scribe provides strategic connections in order to:
Keep the clients’ name and services top of mind with the targeted demographic.
Deliver key messages, through the media, that help bolster client branding.
Positively influence both consumers’ and media’s opinions.
Provide high level coverage in print, broadcast, Web and alternative media.”Looks like they are providing the “crisis communication” of their services for the Del Sur community 🙂

ParticipantThis is a classic example of a periodical publishing a press release straight from the source. Look at the note at the bottom of the article that says the author “is with Scribe Communications.” Scribe Communications is a PR firm! This type of lazy, non-journalistic behavior by the media is exactly why PR firms and their customers even bother to write these releases. All it takes is a one indolent editor who decides to fill space the easy way, and suddenly the company’s message is legitimized as “news”

ParticipantI will agree that it is “fake” news but the article is just reporting on the infrastructure being put in place. Doesn’t really say that home sales are going well or anything like that.
Just an observation.

You go ahead, “keep hope alive”! There is no getting around it. We are headed for a steeper decline in housing prices. For some reason or another you fail to believe it. I myself felt very unsure until recently. I put my house on the market in February, it sold in 45 days. However, already down 15% from peak price. I felt like maybe this isn’t the end, but it infact is THE BEGGINING of the end.
I bought my house in last downturn, because I heard it was a good time to buy. The writing is on the wall, EVERYONE is writing and talking about it, just about every news entity is talking about the housing slump. Houses sit empty, foreclosures are up. You try hard to look for random articles that claim a silverlining. When the consensus is that the housing market is tanking.
You should check out this website.
It contains articles on both ends of the spectrum, although lately they have been comepletely onesided….because the market is declining.

ParticipantThe folks behind Del Sur are smart business people and savvy marketeers. However based on their actions and as well as the builders behavior it is evident that they are struggling. They will continue to do whatever they can to drive business.
The development is densely packed with very tiny lots, it reminds me of an apartment complex. The mello-roos (1.9%) is outrageous. They are always bragging about the damn Ranch House, who cares, unless I am going to live in the Ranch House, why do I care?
Anyhow, the hype and marketing surrounding Del Sur was great and we were really excited about it, however given all of the factors above and more, it has been a big disappointment for us.

ParticipantTotally agree with you BobbyD. We really thought we might buy there, but the negatives outweighed the positives, and that was on top of bubble considerations.
You’re absolutely right about the apartment complex feel. Truly strange when you consider that it’s all SFR right now. Wait till they build the condos!
I also couldn’t agree more about the ranch house. They should be condemned rather than lauded. I don’t care how green it is if it’s usually empty and wasn’t cost effective to build in the first place. Yippee.

Totally agree, also, but you left out the absolutely terrible floor plans in some of those places…ICK!
