I had dinner with my brother and some friends last night. Someone mentioned that we needed a war to jumb-start the economy.
[/quote]Because the two wars we’re already in have done such a great job of jump starting the economy? Seriously – what was your brother thinking is currently happening in Afghanistan and Iraq?
It might work if there were (had been) domestic cutbacks at the same time the defense spending skyrocketed… Instead we had the two wars put on the nations credit cards – and now the bills are coming in. No one wants to cut back on the war, or anywhere eles.

Great point. I believe we had the bubble economy during the Bush years because of the easy monetary policy, lax financial regulations, and national security spending.
I think it’s fashionable in some circles to talk about a great war to jump-start the economy. But people who talk about war forget that’s is basically government stimulus. To me, the problem is that war is all about killing people.
October 11, 2011 at 2:24 PM #730479scaredyclassicParticipantWould it work to stimulate the economy to say we are going to have the best party with the best party technology next year? Spend whatever it takes and instead of fighting, just partying like crazy. Producing jello shots instead of bullets. Getting the best entertainment the best party wear and just gearing the nation up for the most intense partying ever?
Wouldn’t this generate a lot of activity, like war?

Just imagine the tourist dollars that would flow from this as well.
Well it’s TG Against ECRI, lets see who is right.

Are you inviting pigs?
And do you provide crash space so we can consume jello shots in excess and not have to drive home from Temecula?I like your plan to stimulate the economy.
October 11, 2011 at 8:26 PM #730493scaredyclassicParticipantplease do NOT vote for me for president. i am running on a party platform but once im in, it’s going to be the same old crap. I will probably keep geithner on.
also there will be no partying, just more war and I may even loosen environmental restrictions, even though i sort of promised to clean things up.voting for me would be bad.

Plus the only way a it “jump starts” an economy is when you rape and pillage another country. Then destory thier manufactoring infastructor… And be the only supplier of goods and services within the world… So unless you are thinking about going to war with China, Vietnam, India, and most of our european allies… This doesn’t sound like a well thought out plan.

Precisely. It’s not “war” that stimulates the economy, but the taking down of one’s competition and taking control of their natural resources.

Commentary: If cycle forecaster is right, we’re in a sucker’s rallyBy Jon Markman, MarketWatch
SEATTLE (MarketWatch) — Wall Street has quickly shed worries that the U.S. is close to another recession. Will it prove one of the most successful forecasters wrong?
A slight improvement in retail sales last month; decent third-quarter earnings from companies like Google Inc. and Intel Corp.; Europe’s vow that it’s close to a debt-crisis solution; and a two-week rally in stocks have spurred economists and fund managers to discount the possibility of a recession in the United States. That concern gripped markets in August.

I’ve been seeing more and more things being made in the USA again…. Inexpensive things that you would think have low margins and outsourced….I mean, things like plastic boxes, screen meshes, screws, nuts bolts, that traditionally was be made overseas is now here…
Have we reached a point that that our currency and economy is so trashed that it’s starting to look more competitive to manufacture in some of the rustbelts/midwest now versus overseas?
Also, maybe there is some hope afterall???
Americans have no choice but to get more frugalI manufacture SKEGPROTECTORS for repair of broken boat skegs, right up in Oceanside.
I would NEVER consider sending this work out of country even if it were cheaper.
1. I enjoy giving work to small companies like my own even if it’s a bit more expensive, we need to stick together and help each other out in trying times as these…
2. I don’t trust out of country companies to not steal my IP.
3. I have a much better management capability having it all done locally.
