I think both Hitchens and Sullivan are on point. I find it hilarious that conservatives are far more upset about a miscontrued comment from John Kerry than the foreign policy debacle that is Iraq and the fiscal insanity that has the US deficit at record levels.

Sadly, even having an English accent can’t stop you from being an ass sometimes.
He was on ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’ a few weeks ago and irritated just about everybody on the panel with his humourless and pompous diatribes, and didn’t even have to good grace to stay on stage and shake hands at the end of the show.As for Kerry and his inability to tell even a scripted joke…it must seem like Manna from Heaven for the Republicans at this late stage. If they play it correctly they may still be dining out on it up to Polling Day. Pity that Kerry isn’t actually running for anything this time around, or the Dems would be in real trouble…;-)

November 2, 2006 at 1:29 PM #39052blahblahblahParticipantCrazed? Shocking? I just watched the entire thing, and Sullivan and Hitchens calmly make their points in a civil manner. Perhaps you disagree with the men, let’s hear your reasoned argument against the points they raise. Don’t simply slander them by calling their statements “shocking” and the men themselves “crazed”.
November 2, 2006 at 2:52 PM #39064speedingpulletParticipantHitchens is not crazed – often drunk and largley po-faced, certainly.
I just dislike him because even when he’s agreeing with you he looks like he still wants to punch you in the throat. He’s also a lapsed Socialist, as dangerous and opinionated as an ex-smoker when he gets on his high horse. On my ‘how long would I last stuck in an elevator with this person” meter he gets a 2 (1 being “shoot me now” and 10 being “I want to marry you and have your babies even if you are another woman”.
Andrew Sullivan? Don’t know him – although by the Transatlantic Accent I’d guess he’s another Fleet St Refugee. At least he can smile without smirking.
PS: if you want to see truly ‘shocking’, check out Keith Olberman’s newest rant over at YouTube re: John Kerry’s ‘Iraq’ botched joke, and the White House’s continuing misunderstanding of it.

Hats off to the man – at least someone is still making political commentary, even if you disagree with him (which I don’t).November 2, 2006 at 9:39 PM #39099equalizerParticipantFor those who missed my post on another thread I'll repeat it here for context. If I dont villify these guys, I'm out. Villify and hate or get out of Rep party, Follow the rulebook: Never accept responsiblity, never admit a mistake. Always attack. From planet hate, heres my contribution: So Sen. Lindsey Graham get out, you supporter of enemy in Gitmo. Arnold, flaming party hater, get lost. As for Socialist Bloomberg, move to Canada, nobody wants your liberal Bloomberg terminals. As for Will,Buckley,Hitchens you pathethic little men. Hitchens turns flaming pink and unhinges :
- Et tu, Ben Stein, &^%$$ commie, who said "It Is Time For Rumsfeld To Go And For The President To Admit That Iraq Is A Mess," Can I stay in the party now?
I got a much better idea. You demagogues can get the heck out while my buddies Arnie, Bloomberg and Lindsey will run and fix the country while you spew hate. Get out, we DONT want you. NoSuchR: Clear message from some posters here is that anything short of pure allegiance is "traitorous".
November 2, 2006 at 10:06 PM #39107poorgradstudentParticipantI’ve never heard of this Hitchens fellow before. I felt he was somewhat rude in the way he interrupted the host. I totally agreed that Bush’s comment about Cheney was just odd… does he even have the authority to change the VP?
Hitchens seems like a rather bitter, angry man. Still, he makes some good points. Especially about Kerry… Unlike the president, Kerry served in the military. Doesn’t really make sense that he would insult those who serve, i.e. HIMSELF.
It’s time for this administration to admit that they underestimated how difficult the Iraq invasion and establishing a stable democracy would be. It’s time to admit they made mistakes, and start
