Kewp unfortunately that is not true. You may not set foot in a Walmart but to think that many products you have that were not manufactured or have components made in China is completely incorrect…
Many people do not realize how much electronic hardware is made overseas now. People who have cable boxes, dsl, modems, wireless equipment, televisions, flat screens…on and on and on guess what. They may not be manufactured in China but I will be willing to bet some of the components are made in China. How about tires and other components in automobiles. How about lamps…how bout our own tanks, and planes…I could go on and on.
I am not blaming the Chinese either. It is not their fault for being opportunistic. If it wasn’t them it would be someone else. That is how capitalism works and it was a natural cycle for American producers of goods to realize the goods can be made or bought and resold cheaper then in America.
I don’t think there is a straight person or entity to “blame” as it is not anyones fault. However to be naive and think, I don’t have baby’s toys or it is the consumerism in America that is to blame… well I am really not so sure it is as easy as that.

I’m not disagreeing with that. But the fact of the matter is, I don’t buy alot of stuff; I spend money on food, booze and debt these days. True, I do own stuff that was either partially or entirely made in China. And again, I really don’t have any problem with it. I certainly don’t mind the Chinese working in factories to produce cheap computer components that in the long run enable me to make more money. It’s beneficial to all parties as far as I’m concerned.
What I *do* have a problem with is the American urge to over-consume, which is exacerbated by stores like WalMart which are filled to the brim with cheap, plastic crap from overseas. All of which is going to ultimately end up in a landfill.

3. Made in China
This is a true story:
A few years back, my son, who was little – but could read well – saw that all his toys sported “Made in China” and asked my wife – mom, “am I also made in China?”. That little question from a child shines light on another important aspect – with the preponderance of imports, many Americans are now sublimally conditioned to think that “we are not good at …” (fill in whatever you want). Thus is the expanding class of “Jobs Americans can’t/won’t do” needing importation of foreigners.

August 17, 2007 at 3:17 PM #77186GoUSCParticipantI make an effort to not buy things produced in China. Case in point, I am in the market for a tennis racket. Well the ONLY and I mean ONLY racquet manufacturer that makes rackets out of China is Yonex which are made in Japan in their own factory. EVERY MODEL from EVERY OTHER MANUFACTURER is made in China. Unbelievable. Other examples is that I try to purchase New Balance shoes made in the US and my dress shoes are all made in Italy or the US.
Is definately puts a ding on the pocket book but I feel better for it.

Interesting! Tennis started as a game for European aristocrats. Similar to Levi – Strauss blue jeans all made outside US.
