Like SD Realtor said, nothing is better than experiencing it first hand and make the judgment yourself. However, you asked for opinion about Mira Mesa, and here’s mine. I grew up in Mira Mesa since I was 9 in the SW part. I’m still living in Mira Mesa in the NW, renting of course. Geographically, here’s my preference, generally, I’d rank MM in the following order: NW, SW, NE, SE. Of course, there are in-fill developments in MM that defy this general order. The border line that I use to break up MM is, Mira Mesa Blvd. dividing the N & S, and Camino Ruiz dividing the E & W. So, personally, I’d stay away from the SE part of MM.
Positives:
– Affordable prices compare to any area north of the 52.
– Close to high tech jobs (Sorrento/Carmel Valley).
– w/in 15-20 min drive of most of San Diego.
– Mira Mesa schools are one of the top few schools in San Diego Unified.
Negative:
– Crime wise: MM have a very high auto theft problem, especially on the SE area. That’s usually all I hear about crime in MM.
– Some might say MM doesn’t have a personality like Del Mar, or Solana Beach. But what can you expect from an area catered to blue collar workers and young white collar families buying their first home.
– Housing stock: it’s all tract homes in MM, so most houses look the same. All the 4 bed/2 bath 1300-1400 sq-ft house in MM that I’ve seen all have the same interior layout. Same w/ the 3 bed/2 bath 1100-1300 sq-ft houses.
