I don’t know if they are still at it, but Scientology had a history of suing the living crap out of ppl who said derogatory things about them in the 1990s. There was one newsgroup in that era where a group of ppl took to bashing Scientology (exposing it in their minds), and they found themselves in court in short order.
From my recollection, the ppl in that newsgroup claimed Scientologists had some sort of means of getting you to admit problems from your past (I think it was those tin can things CMcG spoke of?), recording those and then using them as leverage to keep you in the fold. I have no idea if that’s true or not.
