Today’s Voice of San Diego article discusses the absurdity of the "everyone wants to live here" meme that is constantly invoked in the endless quest to defend current home prices. Citing a city’s desirability as a perfectly good reason for home prices to rise rapidly and in great excess of income growth just doesn’t make that much sense. And it makes even less sense when you consider that San Diego doesn’t appear that desirable after all, as the trend towards slowing population growth (and, most recently, shrinkage) reveals:
