Thinking Back to Cedar Fire

At the time of the Cedar Fire I thought that the smart move was to take the money and hold off building. The reason being that material and good labor were in a supply demand imbalance. The same scenario is going to hold true with this disaster.

For those affected I am deeply sorry for your loss but that being said there is nothing you can control with respect to you home being saved or not. You should be figuring out what your strategy is going to be once this thing comes to an end.

I guess the fire is a blessing in disguise. The destruction will keep the contractors busy for a while. Oh well, I'll have wait longer for the improvement I want (if my house doesn't burn down also).

When the local builders (Hallmark, Stonefield, etc.) offered to rebuild Scripps Ranch by giving homeowners a fixed price based on established floorplans, it became such a headache that no one made any money.

You won't see any builders step up and offer that again.

I'm sure that dealing with hysterical and demanding housewives is not something that builders would relish.
