I have reliable info that AMD, LSI, and RFMD are laying off. I plead 'da fif' on my sources.

I assume all local?

We never did find out who the other rumored company was about a week or so ago did we? If so I am woefully behind.

Oh, the other one was TI. It's public news now.

2 of the co's mentioned are in the OC, one is in LA.

Not too surprised about AMD, considering how poorly they've been doing ever since Intel came out w/ the Core 2 Duo architecture.

I and many I know of run processor-intensive engineering applications on AMD-Opteron machines. I think a very cost-efficient platform is to have windows machines vnc or citrixed in to linux servers where you can submit batch jobs to AMD-Opteron machines... I guess I'm biased and the impact on sales due to this methodology is low.

I've been an AMD fan since the 486 days. However, recently, I've switched to the Core 2 Duo. Ever since the Athlon first came out, it killed Intel in raw power as well as running cooler and at a slower speed. However, unlike Intel, they don't have the capability to run multiple design concurrently. So they decide to focus on server side, which is where most of the profit is. The Opteron are still very competitive if not dominating. However, they've fallen out of grace w/ the gamers and enthusiast ever since the Core 2 Duo came on the market. This has cost them dearly in market share.

Good to know. The gaming market is BIG.
