Cant run the ball... cant stop the run... cannot score in the red zone.... To many penalties and the last 2 calls of the game were beyond my comprehension.
SDR: Watched the Chargers - Nevermores game with my 11yo son, who plays DT and OT on a Jr Midget Pop Warner team. He's also a huge Chargers fan (which made last Monday in our house REAL interesting).
Anyhoo. His comments throughout the game had to do with two things: The unbelievably crappy tackling by the Chargers D and the unbelievably crappy play calling for the Chargers O.
I've never been a huge Rivers fan, but he essentially carried this team on his back yesterday and his Fouts-like numbers prove it.
Baltimore's D is starting to show its age and that secondary was extremely suspect and this was a game that the Chargers could have won. Not easily, mind you, but they could have won.
After Houston's win over Tennessee and the Jets throttling NE, the AFC is opening up again. The problem is the Chargers don't look like a playoff caliber team right now, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
Where the hell is Merriman? I would think after his choking incident with the delightful Miz Tequila, he'd be loaded for bear.
Hey, the Chargers and Raiders are both 1 - 1. Gotta enjoy it while I can.

Sort of new to the site. I couldn't pass up bagging on Norv. AJ is to blame for hiring Norv and now we all have to live with him. I have been telling anybody who would listen that Norv is not a good coach. Well our team goes and gets into the play-offs two years in a row (barely last year) and no one wold listen. After yesterday everyone is listening. It showed his gutless play calling. He doesn't know how to handle the clock, he is a horrible coach. None of the teams he has coached are ready at the begining of the season. Now AJ has only kept 7 o-linemen and wow, injuries have hurt a couple and we can't run. I say fire AJ and have him take his cronie Norv with him.

Allan lets make no mistake, the raiders have a much stronger line on both sides of the ball. Over the past few years we have watched the decline of the running game with the chargers not because of LTs health but more because of a line that is not built for run blocking. It is what it is. The team has definitely taken on the attitude of the coach whether we like it or not.
If your sons qb would have been at the helm last monday nite your raiders are sitting at 2-0. Never have I seen a more inaccurate qb the jamarcus.
Going back to the bolts yes it was slopping tackling but the bottom line is that there is no personnel along either line for the bolts. Yes we have great skill positions but the raiders showed they can be shut down. I do hafta admit rivers has shown heart and a nice arm and some of those long balls yesterday were right on target. But then he brain cramps and throws a DUMBASS INT when he could have taken a sack or thrown it out of bounds. The late INT sucked because it was interference but rivers should never have thrown it cuz that db was sitting and waiting for it.
I don't see the bolts making the playoffs because you need good lines to be a playoff team and we dont have a good line on either side of the ball. So far two games and the other lines are usually on our side of the line of scrimmage no matter who has the ball. It is really hard to watch them play especially when they are on defense. Watching cooper jump gaps and run himself out of plays, watching arm tackling, watching hart who definitely would not be a starting on most any nfl team, watching them get pushed back 3 yards off the line... it is really tough.
The final stall on 3rd and 4th and 2 was predictable. Lets not forget Nanee could have had the first down if he didn't jerk around on his run after the catch on the 2nd down play. So why on 3rd and 2 do you bunch the line and try some finesse bullshit pass. How predictable was that? Then on 4th down you KNOW, you KNOW Ray Lewis is gonna jump the gap and blitz... I am sitting there yelling before the play, DONT RUN, CALL TO CALL TO. You have been dominating the corners all day and you cant convert 2 yards in 2 plays.
No you don't deserve to win, you don't deserve to make the playoffs, and you are a soft team that is not well coached. How many stupid penalties did they have?
Finally AJ is nowhere to be found. His love affair with linebackers has left the O and D lines in a shambles. You have Jamal Williams who has more knee operations then months in a year and you never in 6 years can draft or trade for another tackle? Cesare and Castillo are just guys. Look at Ngata for the Ravens and DAMN the raiders did great in the seymour trade. That dude is a STUD.
Football games are won in the trenches. Plain and simple.
SDR: Yup, the war in the trenches decides the game, as illustrated by the number of winning playoff teams that run the ball effectively and play stout defense.
I have to tell you I was laughing my ass off during that Bolts - Raiders game. I'm a huge fan of 1 gap defenses as a youth coach (because its simple and easily coached), and there were the Oakland Raiders, a pro team, running a 1 gap defense against the Chargers and IT WAS WORKING!
Unfortunately, Al Davis is too loyal to "his" guys, and JaMarcus is one of "his" guys, so we're saddled this with this JaMoke for the rest of the season. We get some lucky breaks, we'll go 7 - 9, otherwise its a 5 - 11 or 6 - 10 year.
You guys, on the other hand, have so much freakin' talent and AJ Smith has just squandered it away. Yeah, that Ray Lewis hit on Sproles was obvious; Lewis has spent a career bringing the hat on those type plays (he commented after, saying it was one of the best hits of his career), but the Chargers play calling is making them damn near transparent to good D coordinators (like NE, Pittsburgh, Baltimore).
I'll tell you the one team that no one is watching closely (in the NFC) and I think they're poised to push deep into the playoffs, is N'awlins. How in the f**king hell did you guys ever lose Brees? Seriously, he is a friggin' machine and has so many weapons. Watch out.
So? Baltimore and New Orleans in the big game? And, where's TG? Is he hiding out after that Chargers game?

No the saints are not hiding anywhere. They are damn scary good right now. I mean they rolled up the eagles like they were pasties and that eagle d is not as bad as they made them look. I agree with you about them. vikings look pretty tough as well. I can see a steeler saints super bowl shaping up pretty nice....even the jets are making me think a bit. Nice coach them jets have... hmmmmm... I don't see the ravens making it through the playoffs. I see them making the playoffs though. I like the running game they have, good o and d lines... I like flaco as well... like you said though the ravens d backfield was exposed.
True about the bolts transparency. Yet even if you know what they will do, jackson, floyd and gates are so damn big you can say yeah screw it, here is what we are gonna do, you try to stop it. The sproles long td was made because jackson picked off ray lewis... it was a gem.
To bad though... if the bolts did have the raiders line, EITHER of the raiders lines, they would be scary good.

Hell at least your team is worth worrying about. Me I can safely spend Sunday's having the kids play travel ball, so that hopefully they get to play a little HS baseball someday. Typically with the Browns I really don't have much to miss (sorry TG)
I wonder if the Browns were really freaking good if I'd be talking the kids out of playing on Sundays? By the way they are both Cleveland fans for life, and unlike me their formative years may breed indifference to "the league". I at least had Bernie and a nice run in the 80s even if we were Denver's beyotch in the AFC championship games. (I was at "The Drive").

Hey Allan, why everyone raggin' on Jamarcus? Sure he could lose some weight, watch some more film, be more consistent- but when the last 2 games were on the line he made the plays- he just needs to build on that. It can't be easy w/ 2 rookie receivers, one of whom needs at least 2 more years of college ball(DHB).If Raider fans want to rag on someone, why not Stanford Routt? Or Mcfadden for going down at the slightest touch of his legs? Here's something else to stew over :"Raiders fans now have the right to be riled up" http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/200...

The Miami game will be interesting this week, particularly with them bringing the "Wildcat". Last night, they demonstrated why teams can't be offensively one-dimensional and win in the NFL. I wonder if they noticed.

Outtamojo: My beef with JaMoke is that the Raiders are running what amounts to a high school offense because Russell couldn't master the "intricacies" of the previous O and he is having problems with the new, simple one, too.
Kid has a cannon for an arm, but his head is made of wood. Look at his stats for the KC game: 7 of 24 for 109 yards. Jesus wept.
I came up in the wild and wooly days of the 1970s when the Raiders were the RAIDERS (think Davidson, Stabler, Tatum, King, Hendricks, Branch et al). Hell, I can remember Stabler smoking on the sidelines between series and then going out and throwing for 350 yards.

TG you said what I was thinking, Norv is a clumsy drunk who was given a great team and then continues to slobber his way into the play-offs. Marty (I know everyone hates when I bring up Marty) he would have the team pumped and ready to go, day one. Bad luck ruined Marty (and AJ didn't help) I am sure that Marty and AJ had differences and one was that Marty wanted to draft some good O-line guys so he could run and AJ wanted to keep looking for the needle in a hay field. Norv has prospered from what Marty built and like a hangover we the fans are now seeing what Norv has built.

WOW, you can just repeat all the qoutes from last week except the Bolts pulled this one out. Now They should have killed Miami but ekking a win out over a bad team still hurts. Norv has to stop that stupid run up the middle with the smallest RB in the NFL. Sproles is better when darting around. I don't know if anybody saw the New England game but watch what an O-line will do for you. He had all day to throw the ball. Could have eaten a sandwich and then thrown the ball down field. I can't think of what Rivers could do if he had that time.
Ahhhhh!!! Yeah! Same comments as before but we lost BADLY! Can we just fire Norv PLEASE! Now I know he didn't miss the tackles out there but c'mon get your guys ready for a game??? We looked lost. I don't know if anybody saw the New England game but watch what an O-line will do for you. He had all day to throw the ball. Could have eaten a sandwich and then thrown the ball down field. I can't think of what Rivers could do if he had that time.
Fire Norv. He is still an idiot and throw in that stupid AJ Smith!
Ahhhhh!!! Yeah! Same comments as before but we lost BADLY! Can we just fire Norv PLEASE! Now I know he didn't miss the tackles out there but c'mon get your guys ready for a game??? We looked lost. Unmotivated. Lack luster would have been better then what we were. Argggggg!back to rebuilding I guess.
Norv has to go. Wake up Alex Spanos.
Just face it - Chargers suck now, always, and forever. Never done a thing.
Go Steelers!
